Generating BigData insights with mobile data

Background

Orange Belgium is one of the largest players on the telecom market in Belgium. They offer television and internet solutions as well as prepaid and postpaid mobile services to individual customers. Their range also extends to other innovative telecom services.

To their business clients, Orange offers a large range of connectivity- and mobility solutions, telephony, mobile services and broadband internet.

Objectives of the cooperation

The telecom market has increasingly changed into a commodity market. Orange asked CROPLAND to offer consultancy and spot business opportunities in specific data sets to respond to this changing telecom landscape. These business opportunities had to be transformed into a new service offering using Big Data Analytics.

Process

Starting from anonymous network data, CROPLAND developed algorithms that generated insights in a number of domains: tourism, mobility, retail, security, … .

Results

Orange now offers a renewed service offering of commercialised data sets to a large number of cities, retail organisations, event organisations and government agencies. This new service generates revenue for both organisations in a domain that did not exist before. The cooperation is currently servicing approximately 45% of the Belgian market and has won multiple awards.
